Vineyard Haven, Martha's Vineyard
Tisbury, also known as Vineyard Haven, sits to the northeast and is the island’s center of commerce; a bustling port and wooden boat building industry. “One of my favorite things to shoot from the air is boats,” Dave says, “and Martha's Vineyard has plenty, coming and going, including the large ferry boats from Cape Cod and Rhode Island.” Those ferries can also be seen pulling in and out of Oak Bluffs, an area reputed for miles of long beaches and idyllic “gingerbread cottages”. Not to be outdone by this architecture, neighbor Edgartown, the island’s oldest English settlement, boasts white-painted captain's houses and grand churches that speak to the great prosperity of the whaling era.
