White-cloaked mountain tops, frosted bridges, powder-filled farm fields, snow-hushed cityscapes: a collection of aerial photos by four of Latitude Image’s partners features a wintry mix perfect for the holiday season.
No stranger to cold climes, Maine Imaging’s Dave Cleaveland took to the blistery skies over the Northeastern United States’ highest peak to grab images only the most staunch of winter-trekkers will ever see firsthand. Mount Washington, located in New Hampshire, has made a name for itself as a place of dangerously high winds and bitterly low temperatures. On April 12, 1934, the weather observatory on its summit recorded the highest wind gust directly measured on the Earth’s surface: 231mph. It’s a locale dazzling in icy blues and brisk silvers and a great example of man versus nature: the main building was constructed to withstand 300 mph wind gusts while the other buildings are reinforced by large chains holding them to the mountainside.
