Dave Cleaveland, “San Francisco Bay: from Golden Gates to Oakland Ports”
On a recent trip to the west coast of the United States, Dave Cleaveland, owner of Maine Imaging, a company specializing in aerial photography and videography of New England, took advantage of the opportunity to fly the California skies.
“I met up with a photographer buddy of mine and we found a Robinson R-44 [helicopter] for some aerial time,” he says. “I couldn’t make a trip out to the west coast and not get up in the air!”
Dave spent time flying over San Francisco, CA, grabbing shots of the Golden Gate Bridge standing, majestic, over the rich blues and greens of San Francisco Bay. His photos also spotlight downtown San Fran; a bustling mix of towering skyscrapers, regal churches, a palace for fine arts, and hot-ticket stadiums. Busy ports, popular markets, and the movie-worthy island of Alcatraz and its surrounding waters are other highlights of his vibrant photos.
Taking advantage of his time in the skies, Dave was also able to focus his lens on Oakland, the busiest port for San Francisco Bay and all of northern California. The port is brimming with productivity: from the cranes lifting and hauling filled containers to the large and small ships cutting through the waters to the Coast Guard boats patrolling the activity, Dave’s images showcase Oakland’s portside energy.
