Ryan Schmidt: Pilot-Photographer Extraordinaire

About Ryan Schmidt and Schmidty Views

Ryan Schmidt has had an intense fascination with airplanes ever since he could remember. He grew up near a small local airport and watched as planes flew final approach over his backyard. At sixteen, with some money had saved from his first job bussing tables, he began taking lessons at a gars stip. He finally got his license at nineteen and went on to get his instrument rating and commercial certificate. He then spent six years in the Indiana Army National Guard as an artilleryman, during which time he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in telecommunications from Ball State University.

In early 2013, with an eye toward independence and self-determination, he began a new project of mixing his passions for both flying and photography. He started his business, Schmidt Views, offering his services to Central Indiana and surrounding areas. When on a photo mission, he typically flies solo, flying the plane and taking photos at the same time. He employs a method of spray and pray, whereby he takes as many photos as he can while trying not to crash the airplane. With this method he’s able to get plenty of keepers.
