Piazza del Duomo, Milan
Here, amidst bustling bankers, businessmen and women, tourists, and street performers, there is the unquestionable sensation of a thriving, busy city moving in and around massive architecture. The masterpiece of the plaza is, undoubtedly, the Duomo, a white marble cathedral that contains more than 100 spires and over 3000 statues. The goliath building, one of the four largest cathedrals in the world and the largest in Italy, took over six centuries to build and required major innovative engineering to finish its construction. Followed closely by the also impressive and architecturally innovative Basilica di Sant’ Ambrogio in the Piazza Sant’Ambrogio just a few streets away, the Duomo is one of Milan’s top tourist attractions.
